Update on Kw'iahnǫ Dekwoo (Bumble Bees)
September 11, 2025
In July 2024, WRRB and GNWT staff assisted in kw'iahnǫ dekwoo (bumble bee) collecting along the highway near Behchokǫ̀, and the Ingraham Trail. This July 2025, WRRB staff had another buzzing time assisting with the Roadside Bumble Bee Surveys, run by the Government of Canada.
The same process as last year was followed: we collected the kw'iahnǫ dekwoo specimens from each location along the highway between the Tłı̨chǫ All Season Road (TASR) and Yellowknife, preserved them in 90% ethanol while harming no other wildlife or wildlife habitat during the process. These specimens will be analyzed and identified to gain a better understanding of kw'iahnǫ dekwoo habitats and distribution in Wek’èezhìı.
