ERM completed the final third-party process review report, entitled "Review of the Management and Monitoring of Kǫk’eetì Ekwǫ (Bathurst Caribou) Report" as of January 2025. The Board has completed a review and developed a qualitative assessment response to the final report.
The WRRB undertook an external technical review of Kǫk’èetì Ekwǫ̀ (Bathurst Caribou) monitoring and management in 2024 to help the Board inform future management actions on Kǫk’èetì Ekwǫ̀, as well as other herds and species. ERM Consultants Canada conducted the external review. The information collected during the technical review of Kǫk’èetì Ekwǫ̀ monitoring and management as well as recommendations provided will be reviewed and used to help set a path forward.
The goal of the five-year wolf (dìga) management program is to sufficiently reduce wolf (dìga) predation on the Bathurst and Bluenose-East herds to allow for an increase in calf and adult caribou (ekwǫ̀) survival rates to contribute to the stabilization and recovery of both herds. This report summarizes wolf management and monitoring activities undertaken by GNWT and Tłı̨chǫ Government during 2024. It provides an update to the previous reports on wolf management activities in Wek’èezhìı during winter 2020 (Nishi et al., 2020), 2021 (Clark et al., 2021), 2022 (Wilson et al., 2022), and 2023 (Wilson et al. 2023) and is intended to fulfill the WRRB’s recommendation (#20-2020) that an “annual report be prepared by GNWT and TG and presented to the Board at a scheduled board meeting to allow for the discussion of adjustments in methodology based on the evidence, beginning fall 2021”.
A one-page plain language summary has been created to provide information about the overlapping winter ranges of the Bathurst herd and its neighboring herds (Bluenose East and Beverly herds).
