Tǫdzı (Boreal Caribou) Survey
July 08, 2025
Earlier this year, WRRB Conservation Biologist Amanda Weltman joined the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) North Slave Regional Biologist to conduct an aerial classification survey of tǫdzı, which is part of the monitoring program for the Tłı̨chǫ Highway from 2024-2027. This work supports monitoring of adult female survival and calf recruitment to track population trends. It will also help us assess the impact of the Tłı̨chǫ Highway on tǫdzı habitat use and movement, how they respond to wildfire and other disturbances, and how survival and recruitment relate to changes on the land over time.
