Co-management is an approach where government agencies and local groups share authority and decision-making in the management of resources.
The WRRB operates on a co-management basis. The WRRB believes co-management of renewable resources within Wekʼèezhìi should stress:
- Developing a shared view on ways to manage wildlife;
- Clear rules and guidelines;
- Promoting compromise and balance;
- The use of traditional knowledge, science and expert opinion;
- Involvement of communities and local groups in decision-making and resource management activities; and,
- Responsibility for collecting and using information should be shared among the stakeholders.
